Lorne is the perfect place from which to explore the further treasures of the Great Ocean Road and its hinterland. It’s quite easy to explore the road doing day trips, here are some ideas:


Lorne - Apollo Bay - Lavers Hill - Colac:
This scenery filled drive includes the coastal hamlets of Wye River and Kennett River, the highest point in the Otways, Lavers Hill, the rural city of Colac and the country village of Birregurra. You can make some side trips to Cape Otway lighthouse, the rainforest of Maits Rest and Melba Gully, waterfalls and the Otway Fly Tree Top Walk. There are also the delights of the Otway Food and Wine Trail to sample along the way. Distance: 210km; driving time: 3 hours (does not include stops for sightseeing, off-road trips, activities).


Lorne - Apollo Bay - Port Campbell -
Colac - Lorne:

Great coastal views holiday villages and the spectacular Twelve Apostles are the highlights of this drive. It can include side trips to Cape Otway lightstation, the rainforest and waterfalls. Distance: 283km; driving time: 4 hours (does not include stops for sightseeing, off-road trips, activities).


Lorne - Apollo Bay - Birregurra - Lorne:
This leisurely drive along one of the most scenic sections on the Great Ocean Road includes the hamlets of Wye River and Kennett River. Takes in the holiday village of Apollo Bay and then heads inland across the Otway Ranges through Forrest to Birregurra. You return to Lorne via Deans Marsh and Pennroyal. Side trips to Maits Rest in the Otway National Park and Cape Otway Lightstation. Seafood, berries and home-made ice-creams are some of the Otway Food and Wine Gourmet Trail delights available on this tour. Distance: 148km; driving time: 2 hours 15 minutes (does not include stops for sightseeing, off-road trips, activities).
